Microgaming Poker Review ? the Good and Bad

In my time as a poker player I have played on many networks and drifted across many rooms. I have decided to take a break from grinding like a bot to share my experiences with the world. After the collapse of FullTilt and the subsequent events that followed I decided that my eggs were no longer safe in one basket. So in an attempt to minimise my exposure to collapsing rooms and busted networks I have decided to start playing across networks and have my bank roll split fairly evenly between each room/network.

After much deliberation I allowed a friend of mine to convince me into playing on the Microgaming network. The network has no real appeal for me and I must admit I was very sceptical starting out there. However my friend did manage to refer me to a pretty good affiliate who managed to set me up on a fairly rewarding rakeback deal. Unlike some other networks, Microgaming rakeback is sanctioned by the network and is generally around 30% paid weekly depending on what room you play at.

The Microgaming network is not the best for traffic but at peak times you can find games all the way up to 100nl pretty easily but I found that players like me who have a poor habit of keeping late hours and sleeping through peak times, it can become a little more challenging to find action.

Once you’ve found the action the games tend to be quite soft in my opinion but Microgaming does have it fair share of regs and as always it is good etiquette to table select very carefully if you want to avoid running into a shark.

After all this the software at Microgaming does leave a lot to be desired considering the size the network was at one stage, the software feels as though it was very solid a few years back but now it leaves me wanting for something sharper and more streamlined. It is a nice feature that the use of 3rd party software such as HEM and PT3 is permitted but this does not make up for some of the glitch software present on the network.

In conclusion Microgaming is not the worst network out there, but it is a network that could do much better given its pedigree. A nice feature of the network is the 30% rakeback available to players and there are a number of big name rooms on the network but apart from that the network is lacking in terms of innovation and drive, if the network is to move up the stakes and compete against some of the bigger players out there it must rely on more than just Microgaming rakeback offers and some fishy traffic in my opinion.
